Ole,
That's not entirely true. The U.S. version never had that requirement.
It was only on the international version that this was initially
required. I believe that was removed from the product in version 7.0x
or high so the international version is now just like the U.S. version.
So while there is a "key" to enter, it is the same every time and it
does not have to be registered on line.
Disclaimer: I live in the U.S. and speak from what I have read in their
newsgroups. My own experience with the U.S. version never involved
having to register on-line. As far as the database itself, it's fast,
mature and chock full of features not found in other RDBMS's, just to
mention a few of their attributes. I've never had any C/S corruption
issues...ever (and my applications are generally written for a group of
consumers who are very computer illiterate). Do I use other databases?
Sure...I don't throw away a client and money just because they can't
spend the additional money for a server license. I also use registered
DBIsam and NexusDB v1 and v2.
Anyway, as I stated, I believe the key issue has been resolved for non
U.S. clients but anyone interested in Advantage should check with their
local sales rep.
