DBGrid with multi-line titles - Part 2

As per the request from Raymond Schappe -
Having waded through the various grids my comments are as below. When
choosing a component the problem arises that one does not have time to go
through all the "bells and whistles" and yes, if a demo is available it does
give an indication of how the component can perform but not how easy it is
to use and to wade through the code in the demo is painful - then sometimes
the demo's won't compile anyway....
What I look for is, I can only describe as, the same "look and Feel" of the
standard Delphi components. This allows one to get up and running quickly
based on intuition. Unfortunately non of the components below offered this.
JVCL - poor documentation on the grids. There are 2 DB grids in the latest
version neither of which I can get the multiline titles to work as required.
If a title is made multiline then the first word is vertically centered in
the title and subsequent words dissappear below the lower title boundary. A
pity because I would like to support the initiative. Perhaps JEDI is too big
on quantity and not quality - please take this as constructive criticism.
Will still look at some of the other JEDI components as some look good (from
the demo).
Scallium - On a quick examination, appears to be buggy, couldn't get fixed
columns to work as I wanted ended up frustrated and gave in.
EHLib - demo is impressive but the properties are a little "quirky". Grid
flat look is more 3D than flat and is preffered over the 3D version -
assuming that one wants the cells themselves to remain flat. The 'setup'
file didn't function correctly so I ran the installation manually. However,
the DataDrivers wouldn't compile. Seems I need to have ADO and a different
version of IB - I have D5 Pro.
AdvancedGrid and TMS's DBStringGrid are out of my pocket (I'm not a
programmer by profession).
Of the bunch, on a 'required features/cost' basis, then EHLib seems to be
the one I will go for but having problems with the installation (first
impressions etc) and not knowing the level of back-up from EHLib are of
concern.
Regards
.
