I've never tried exporting to Sage, but we have an application that
imports from Sage, and it was no fun. After relying for a while on the
ASCII export generated from Sage, and being repeatedly dismayed to find
that every new version of Sage made some subtle change in the export
files, so as to break any programs relying on them (deliberately, it
seems), we finally bit the bullet and had our customer purchase the
ODBC driver. I think it's a ridiculous way of doing buisness, but I
also think you have little choice.
