Popularity doesnt necessarily = liked, it means people buy it because
its compatible with everything else other people buy.

However, Im not saying its not a highly successful company, nor that
its a crock of rot, just that there are plenty of people out there with
issues about it in some shape or form.

But you normally only hear from those with a beef against them, rarely from
those who like them, thus it looks like they are widely hated when that's
probably a gross overstatement. I'll go on record here as saying that in
general I like MS. Not every product (especially development tools), not
every business deal, but in general I like 'em.
