Robust single file database

I am looking for an easy to use database engine that would allow one to
store numerous objects in a database (using Blob fields) . Ideally, this
database should be robust, able to support pretty large tables, be not too
expensive and have a small footprint. Configuration should be pretty easy
and ideally, this database should work without any DLL.

I have tried disqlite3 which seems to fill all those conditions. But it is
quite complicated to use (for an unsophisticated programmer like myself), so
I am looking for an alternative.
