FWIW, I've only briefly looked at .NET's WF, but I'm not certain that it
would fit some of the edge cases that we have even if we could integrate
it well (I'm quite hesitant to integrate a v1.0 MS product into "the
guts" of the application).

I wonder if exist one. I don't need a graphicall editor but I want a
easy to get API....

What are some of the features you'd like to see? In most cases,
workflow can be reasonably modeled with a few simple state machine classes.
