Re: Client Server Application Research

Hello Amy

Craig has already responded about kbmMW - you might though wish to check
out the messaging features the Enterprise edition has.

You can read about it in the kbmMW University paper :- The Wide Information
Bus - Advanced realtime messaging and also ask any questions you may have
about it on our newsgroups. Our news server is at the address

kind regards and have fun with your project

Hi there,

My name is Amy, nice to meet you all. I am hoping someone will be able
to offer me some advice. I am a software engineer (for the past 5
years using delphi) but have never had to tackle anything quite like
this.

I am researching writing an application that requires communication
between a server app and and remote client app.

The exact scenario is the client on a remote pc (laptop with cell
connection) and a server application running back at the office. I
want the client app to blindly send back information to the server
app, such as current location (gps) e.t.c. I would like the server app
to be able to dispatch 'command's and jobs to the client application.

The client and server apps will be operating over either a LAN/WAN or
the Internet.

I am not entirely sure where to be looking to get started - and was
hoping to get advice on that. Should i be looking at using sockets to
communicate between the client and server? or are there other
alternatives around that may be more suitable? I have had no
experience with the Intraweb componentes, is that something that is a
possibility?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I can answer any questions
if it helps to get more information. I am sorry if this is a bit of a
basic question, but I am really just looking for advice on what I need
to start looking at and researching.

Thanks so much,

Amy.
