Re: Single file DB with smallest footprint

1, Be beware that in mid-range/long term Access will be deprected because
MS only want to support one DB - MS SQL-Server.

Access is still included in latest MS Office. It uses new OLEDB provider,
however Access will live at least until next release of MS Office and I do
not think that MS will exclude it from the next MS Office.

Another DB that MS will support - MS SQL Server CE (Compact Edition). It is
named MS SQL Server, however it differs very much from full MS SQL Server
and from SqlExpress.

2, On Embedded-Windows the vendor of the System can configure Windows (XP)
that not JET is installed. And you can't install the JET-Engine without
installing Access!

Jet SP is available on MS site and can be installed without Access. It is
very unlikely to encounter Windows XP without Jet.

3, Good Luck with the DLL-Hell (Which SP of JET/MDAC must be installed to
get the app run?)

That is partially true. Partially because most computers will have MDAC 2.5
or higher and Delphi does not use features available on higher versions, in
most cases MDAC 2.1 will be enough. The same is true for Jet SP - most
programs will not use features that are not available in all versions of Jet
4.

I agree that for centralized installation on 100K something completely
distributed with program is better than Access.

MS Access is not small footprint but it is installed on alsmost all
computers, so you will not need to deploy anything.
