Re: Remote Support through Firewalls and Proxy Servers

Hi Allan,

I was using RTC portal beta, and it is basically like PCAnywhere or GoToMyPC. I don't know all the features of PCAnywhere so I can't comment in detail, but the basic idea is the same. However, PCAnywhere would not work for me (in the version I tried, a couple of versions ago I think) because the computer I want to control is behind a firewall and pretty well locked down. RTC worked without any problem. GoToMyPC also works for me, but it has a monthly fee which adds up. Comparing the performance, for me RTC was just slightly slower than GoToMyPC (which is almost certainly down to the ping times for the exact locations of the gateways for the two programs). So I'm working on switching over. I just need to get my web host to agree to install the gateway -- my current host refused, but I was planning to drop them anyway so this is what finally is getting me to get my act together and switch hosts.

In summery, it is definitely worth looking into if you are in the market for this kind of thing.

Danijel,
Two questions. Am I right in understanding that RTC Portal is, in very basic terms, a full replacement for PCanywhere in terms of capabilities and performance? Second, do you have a money-back period along DevExpress lines (or have I missed a trial capability?).

Have you ever had problems supporting your customers over the Internet because they are using rigorous firewalls and proxy servers which have made it very hard or impossible to use "standard" remote desktop control software?

RTC Poral 2.0 is the ultimate solution to all your problems:
