Hi Allan,
Just to clarify my post, what I mean when I say that GoToMyPC was slightly faster is that it was technically faster, but not noticeably faster. Using the two programs felt exactly the same. But if I opened up control of the same pc by both programs at once you could see that GoToMyPc's virtual screen was slightly ahead of the RTC screen. Again I honestly think that this was down to the location of the gateways and a different user could easily get the opposite result.
If PCanywhere is working for you, and you already own it, I'd go with that. Is it's handling of file transfer particularly slow? The RTC licensing is might be of interest to you as you can use it to control as many clients as you like with no extra cost. Unfortunately I can't comment on the speed comparison with PCAnywhere.

Ivan,.
Thank you. I saw your reply just an instant after sending my response to Danijel.
I had already rejected GoToMyPC for the very cost reasons you mention.
PCanywhere does in fact meet my needs but, again, the cost level becomes high when a lot of clients are involved. The trouble is that I don't know how PCanywhere compares in performance with GoToMyPC and, therefore, cannot yet compare it with RTC Portal. The small speed penalty which you mention in comparison between the 2 products you have evaluated would not be critical, but a major degradation (15% or greater) compared to PCanywhere could well be critical to the final decision.
At the very least, your response has confirmed that I should keep an open mind on switching to RTC Portal - possibly some time after Danijel has introduced a full (non-beta) trial capability (or money back guarantee).

Allan

I was using RTC portal beta, and it is basically like PCAnywhere or GoToMyPC. I don't know all the features of PCAnywhere so I can't comment in detail, but the basic idea is the same. However, PCAnywhere would not work for me (in the version I tried, a couple of versions ago I think) because the computer I want to control is behind a firewall and pretty well locked down. RTC worked without any problem. GoToMyPC also works for me, but it has a monthly fee which adds up. Comparing the performance, for me RTC was just slightly slower than GoToMyPC (which is almost certainly down to the ping times for the exact locations of the gateways for the two programs). So I'm working on switching over. I just need to get my web host to agree to install the gateway -- my current host refused, but I was planning to drop them anyway so this is what finally is getting me to get my act together and switch hosts.
In summery, it is definitely worth looking into if you are in the market for this kind of thing.

Two questions. Am I right in understanding that RTC Portal is, in very basic terms, a full replacement for PCanywhere in terms of capabilities and performance? Second, do you have a money-back period along DevExpress lines (or have I missed a trial capability?).

RTC Poral 2.0 is the ultimate solution to all your problems:
