A marketing question

Here is my dilemma ...

Even though I've been very positively surprised by how well RTC Portal VCL subscriptions (source code) have been accepted by the Delphi community, I'm also surprised by how little interest the RTC Portal Standard (exe) subscriptions have attracted (4% EXE verses 96% VCL sales).

I know that this could be due to the fact that our main customers are developers and most developers want to have the source code, but ...

I am wondering ...

If we would release all executables (including RTC Control and Gateway ISAPI) as a free download, like it was the case with the old RTC Remote Tools 1.6, how would that affect "Source Code / VCL" subscription sales?

For example, if you were interested in remote desktop control software which you could use to remotely support your customers over the Internet, would free executables reduce your perceived value of the product, or would you see this as a better way for testing what you were about to purchase in source code?

This is the product I'm talking about:

Thank you for your feedback.
