Dear Developer,
Jpeg files are very widely used for storage of photographic images, and
therefore the Jpeg format plays an important role in many software projects.
NativeJpg is a new software component, fully written in Object Pascal
(Delphi), that allows reading and writing of Jpeg files, and includes many
more features. It is now available from SimDesign with full sources for an
introductory price (see below).
The standard "Jpeg" unit that comes with Delphi just wraps the functionality
of a compiled C-library, and therefore it does not provide Object Pascal
source-code of the actual functionality. It also doesn't include features
that are sometimes important for developers, like access to the meta-data,
lossless operations, and special colour space support (to name one: CMYK).
SimDesign's new NativeJpg component does allow for all this, and makes your
projects no longer compiler-dependent. NativeJpg is compatible with Delphi
5, 6, 7, 2005/2006/2007. A trial version is available for Delphi 5, 6, 7 and
2006/2007.
NativeJpg is really written from the ground up, with an object-oriented
approach, modern memory management, and highly optimized code in certain
places. It is therefore very fast already. Currently, the fastcode team has
also taken up the challenge to optimize the IDCT routines (this is the
bottleneck in Jpeg decoding).
