I cannot recommend it enough. The workstation version (non-free) lets
you even take multiple shapshots of your VM. Take a snapshot, do
whatever etc... Not happy ? revert to snapshot. In a few minutes you're
back where you were before. Buy a faster 'puter? install vmware, load a
backup of your VM, within a short time you have you development
environment exactly how it was on the old machine, only faster.
It is truly excellent and changes the way you work for the better (all
this IMHO, of course)
I've toyed with moving to this over the last few months.
My thought was to take my existing DevPC, turn it into
an image and use it in a new box. However, I'd also
like to make this portable. That is, on the few times I
need to be at a customer site, I'd like to move the image
from the new box to a laptop, do some coding on the
laptop, then come back to the office and move the
image back to the desktop machine.
Have you done that, and if so what sort of issues
need to be resolved when swapping back and
forth?
TIA.
