Sorry, it wasn't meant to be directed at you, rather the
definitions in the header files.
I was commenting on the fact that the Metre was defined by
France (AFAIK) who spell it Metre and the US who as far as I
know use miles/feet/inches spell it Meter.
Of course there may be a valid reason but as a UK citizen I
don't know them.

How did you come to that conclusion, if I may ask? I'm
from the Czech Republic (a relatively small, but very
nice, country located at the heart of the Europe).

Metres is the unit not Meters (which is an instrument
with a dial)
Oh well :(

I've checked it up with my dictionary and it mentions both
"metre" and "meter" as units of a distance, the latter
being commonly used in US English.

I have to admit that I tend to use both the general
English and the US English expressions interchangeably in
my speech/written word. I'm not a native English speaker
and I realize my English is nowhere near perfect, but I do
keep improving.
