Recently we have done a test - when the user downloaded the software, he was asked a couple of questions. One of the questions was "What is your primary criteria when you choose the software solution among the available alternatives?". Out of the 200+ answers received (gathered in about 3 days for one of products) there was 1 (one) person, who said that "feedback from other users" (the exact choice text was different) was the main criteria. This clearly shows, that technical and business factors (quality, price, TOO) are much more significant factor. And people who claim that "now I won't buy from you" would not buy anyway, no matter what the reason they would give.
