Encrypting lib.

Hi all,

We offer our customers one year free upgrade and we did not include the date
info in the license keys when generate the keys for our customers, so it's
hard for the program to determine if the free upgrade period of a specific
license has expired or not. We'll change the algorithm for generating the
keys, however we need to solve the problem for those old license keys, the
idea is to include an encrypted DB which stores the license keys with the
date purchased for each. I don't know too much about encryption and don't
have to much time to dig deeply, could you suggest which algorithm/tool/lib
to use to obtain the maximum security for the DB with minimum effort?
