External scripting

I have to create an application with a lot of Edits and I was thinking of adding the capability of a script outside the application that can control the constraints of the Edits, like min max values, character or text restrictions, etc. What is the best way or components to do this? I guess I would also need an editor to create such external scripts as well.

Thanks in advance.
