ANN: RemObjects Software Wiki Available

RemObjects Software is pleased to announce that our public wiki is now
available at http://wiki.remobjects.com/wiki.

Purpose

The wiki is an ongoing exercise (over 1550 pages already) to provide a
comprehensve knowledgebase that covers the world of RemObjects
Software. It is, of course, primarily based on our products but it does
cover the environment in which we operate, both software and hardware.

We are currently populating the wiki with data from various sources and
we will continue doing this. It is intended that the wiki will become
our primary help resource aided by other material on our website.

Access

The wiki is available for anybody to read. As well as providing a
valuable resource to our customers, it should help potential customers
see exactly what we have available.

Although we expect to do the majority of the updating ourselves, we
welcome help from our customers in any shape or form. Logging on with
your existing website credentials for remobject.com will allow you to
edit or create pages. Even if you have never updated a wiki before,
don't let that put you off. We have provided a set of help pages that
will guide you through the process.

RemObjects staff will moderate the wiki to ensure that consistency is
maintained and to index pages as required.

Features

The wiki is built using the MediaWiki engine that powers Wikipedia.
Great care has been taken to provide a consistent look and feel
together with a well-defined 'product access'. Although our products do
have a lot of synergy, we still needed to provide a good browsing
experience for the user of a single product.

Much effort has also been made to provide extensive indexing - we think
that this type of resource stands or falls on the ease of navigation.

We recognise that permanent internet connections are not enjoyed by
all, so an offline version can be downloaded whenever needed. The
download file is automatically updated every night.

The Future

We have already created two beta wikis where all new development is
being logged prior to shipping new public releases. When our
three-monthly upgrades are shipped, we will transfer the new data from
the beta wiki. This will allow us to keep documentation in step with
development, always difficult for a company such as ours.

Enjoy!
