Ha! I was recently called to the voir dire process to
select a jury to try a statutory rape case. Now in Texas
*nothing* else but the ages matter in order to get a 5 year
prison sentence. The age criteria was so broad that they
had to call 60 people in order to find 12 who would agree
to support the state law. It disappoints me that we have
laws that citizens will not support. --JohnH

Were you disappointed in the laws or the citizens? In general -- there can
be exceptions -- I'd be disappointed in the laws, not the citizens. How can
there be, in a democrary, laws the citizens won't support? In Texas?
Please, you're tarnishing my cherished image of Texas! My son is in Austin,
at UT, and we took a wonderful tour of the Texas state legislature. Now you
tell me there's a disconnect between the Texas legislature and the stalwart
citizens thereof? Heaven forfend! Having worked for many years in the US
Congress, I'm intimately familiar with the disconnect between federal law
and the citizenry. But in Texas? Please, God, let it not be so!
