I'm writing a small backup utility. Need to burn a file to a CD/DVD
each day so that I end up with one CD containing multiple backups. All
clients with have either XP or Vista. I'm using D2007.
I know this topic has been discussed many times. I have used Binary
Magics but am getting rid of it for various reasons (poor support,
poor documentation etc...). Also don't want to spend several thousand
dollars. Needs to be royalty free. What currently are my best options?
I saw a WinSoft just announced Component Suite. Anyone using that?
TIA.

This would require a CD-R (or DVD +/- R) with multiple sessions
(a multi-session disc).
Nothing wrong with that; it's what +/-R discs were originally designed for
but recent Windows OSs (XP and above) are notorious for poor or no support
for multi-sessioned discs (either CD or DVD). In practical terms this
usually means only the 1st session will show up in Windows Explorer and be
accessible to your clients. There are programs out there that can correct
this problem but most people just use multiple discs instead of multiple
sessions on one disc because discs are so cheap these days. And consequently
fewer and fewer CD/DVD burner programs support multi-sessioning anymore.
As a backup strategy, multi-sessioning is almost a thing of the past and is
no
longer recommended.
