BDE Multi User Problems on P2P network

Using BDE, Program compiled with D6 and running on Windows 98.
We are using a single dBase file running on a peer-to-peer network and
accessing it from 2 computers simultaneously.
PROBLEM: When we append records sometimes a record is lost.
I have heard of this problem happening before and read many posts without
much of a clear solution.
We HAVE set LOCAL SHARE to TRUE (as suggested).
Anything else we can do to make this work. ANy suggestion at this stage
would be a help.
