hard space - delphi to word

Hi all! In Delphi, say I format a hard space and dash in a telephone
number with +#160 or +'\_'
If I write it out to an .rtf document it comes through fine.
Tel: 1 (949) 863-0560
When I try to use a Word macro to insert a selection from the same
delphi routine, it adds another \ resulting in the special characters
printing for the hard dash
Tel:\~1\~(410)\~756\\_1000
Any ideas to fix this on the delphi side?
