Selecting rows in StringGRid

I have a Stringrid. Now I can select rows with a mouse no problem and
then press a button to delete the row. BUt I also want to do the
following. Highlight a row and then use the down arrow key to
highlight another row. Subsequently press a button to delete this row.
I have been able to move the highlight down each row with the arrow
key but when I press the delete button it fails to recognise the
highlighted row.
In other word mouse selection of a row works well, but not selection
by a down arrow key. Any help would be welcome.
