De-Activate Taskbar Button

For various reasons I have to load another exe from my program which will serve
as a form of service to that program. The loaded exe is closed when the main
application closes.

I load it wth ShellExecute with SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE and the focus stays with the
loading application (as it should). However the taskbar button for the loaded
exe stays selected and down even though the focus is with the originating
program.

Does anyone has any suggestions to return the selected taskbar button to the
program which actually has the focus. Or (even better) to hide the taskbar
button for the loaded exe so that ther is no indication of its presence
