My mouse exploded today

Hello all !

Fortune is changing...the other day I won Delphi 8 S.A. in the lottery.
Today my mouse exploded. Yes, I'm not joking. I was writing Delphi code when
I suddenly heard a sharp bang, like the sound of a small caliber rifle.
There were some drunk youngsters outside my office window, I didn't see or
smell any smoke, and so I thought that there was something going on outside.
Someone being shot, for instance.
Half an hour later my mouse started acting weird, much like when you have a
background process eating 99% of CPU time. That was when I saw the mouse
mat. It looked like the mouse had peed (MS Wireless Optical), but when i
tasted it...well, it was either acid or something. After having dismantled
the mouse I suddenly realized that one of the batteries were blown. The
encapsulation was broken, and the +pole was some 3mm too far out from the
rest...
I should tell that the batteries have been used for some 4+ months.
Have you heard of such things ? Batteries exploding without having been
subject to short circuit ?
