Delphi 6 vs 7 vs 8

I currently use Delphi 6, but need to purchase a new copy for licensing
reasons. I believe the current version is 8, which is for .NET, and
which is also (always? sometimes?) shipped with a copy of 7, the latest
non-.NET version.

What are the implications of .NET? Can version 8 be used with just VCL
for non-.NET applications in the same way as version 6 or 7? Or does it
force you to do everything differently?

Cheers
Tony
