Build in Delphi 5 - VERY slow

The project I am building is only 580K lines long. Gradually, as I have
been working on this over the years, the build times grew from 2 min to
10 min to now 40 min (on a 1.4G computer). This is exessively slow. It
sits in the middle of compile on something like 380K lines compiled for
30 min or so, advancing 500 or 1000 lines at a time once in a while...

Does anyone know what would cause this and what the remedy may be?
