I am not able to help with your actual problem. But you can quite easily
get you a working VB5 version for test purposes.

That link to VB5CCE -version is well hidden on Microsoft's pages. I have
not been able to locate this download section with Microsoft's own
search engines and not with Google either.

It is a true VB5, but just an interpreter, it does bot compile anything
to executables. But to test some Delphi written ActiveX controls, it
should be OK.
