Well, that entirely depends upon what your target audience run, doesn't it?
Some of us still write software to be run on Win95 for old 486s... CD drives
are few and far between :-)
a new PC is now so damned cheap that a reinvestment in a PC would save
their boss millions of dollars in waisted waiting time for the
computer to boot, r...u....n t.........h..........e
p......r........o.......g......r......a......m etc-etc (all dots is
trying to mimick the slowness of the execution by a 30 Hz 486)
The employer is not paying for effective work at all, just paying a
lot for wasted time in waiting for the computer to do anything.
Or is the use of extreme slow computers a way to keep many inefficient
employers in "work", that is all waiting for the computer to do
anything?
Over here a new P5 with 3 GHz desktop or tower start at 4000 NOK
(divide by 7 to get in dollar) with 512 MB RAM etc. I would think in
all other countries it would be even far cheaper since Norway is the
most expensive country to live in. (at least said by newspapers)
