I think you'll find that the 50mhz 486s in use will all run win98 just fine,
and the needed apps (aside from mine) such as Office97 et al all run at a
very good speed. Installing from floppies isn't fun, but once everything was
on there all I need to do to update my software is insert a floppy disk.

The employer is not paying for effective work at all, just paying a
lot for wasted time in waiting for the computer to do anything.

See above. You really have no idea.

Over here a new P5 with 3 GHz desktop or tower start at 4000 NOK
(divide by 7 to get in dollar) with 512 MB RAM etc. I would think in
all other countries it would be even far cheaper since Norway is the
most expensive country to live in. (at least said by newspapers)

I'm glad that you're so rich.

The people I write stuff for are a charity group, and can't afford new
computers. And why should they fork out for P4s, multi-gigahertz machines
when these things don't offer anything that they need?
