Ooooph. I did it dynamically. I just spat on allthe OO stuff connected
woth the TDataModule, and made a global, owner-less TDataBase with Init
and DeInit procedures. And it worked!
This meshy program only gained from it.

Perhaps taking one step at a time would help clarify things. Can you
set up a database and query at design-time, then create a database
object at runtime, and make the query switch to it? If you use two
different backend databases, you should be able to deduce from the
query results if it has actually switched.
An easy way to check it is have the DataBaseName and AliasName fields
diferent, so that in the absence of TDataBase the TQuery will not find
anything.
