Newbie questions about Delphi...

I've been database programming with VB for about ten years now. I've 'played' with Delphi a little bit many years ago and was curious about it again. I have a few questions:

Who is Embarcadero? What happened to Borland?

What is the difference between Delphi and 'Delphi for NET'? Can't one program do both?

Does Delphi only work on Windows? Can I write programs for Linux?

Can I do more with Delphi than VB? Is there any real advantage to switching?
