If UNIX, Windows, C, C++, Java, etc. are all examples of the work
of these "experts", then I don't think they are doing a very good job.
In any case, many of these "experts" are succeeding at putting themselves
out of work. Programming has become a field for lots of low-level
minions that need no particular intelligence as long as they can memorize
the arcana. A small number of people that actually *do* understand
the problem being solved (but don't want to mess with the arcana) hire
a lot of "coders", usually overseas, to do the grunt-work. Cheaper
that way.
