Because they weren't given away for free with the source code
to universities for years, from the 1970s henceforward?
Because they weren't the basis for a significant 1980's
programming language research project?
Note that there's a good deal of luck in Natural Selection.
Also note that Sexual Selection is part of the process, too. :-)
