Hi Everybody,
my professor has asked me to program a nice input-output interface for
a program written in Fortran he has been using for 20 years. (I guess
it's writtenin Fortran 66 or so?!?).
At this point, I only know Java. I am starting to learn Fortran.
Due to my lack in experience I have some questions and am extremely
grateful for any help:
Which language should I use to program a nice I/O-Interface? (will
probably need some dropdown menus and the output will consist of some
simple drawings, possibly graphs)
Can I use VB or VBA for this? Can VBA read an input stream and give it
to the Fortran program?
Can I program a Windows-like interface with Compaq Visual Fortran or
Intel Visual Fortran? Which one should I prefer? Compaq, Intel, VBA,
VB?
Where can I get a Fortran compiler? Is there a student version or do
all compilers/development environments have to be purchased?
How hard do you think will this problem be? How long does it take to
get started with Fortran?
Thanks a lot for your help,
I am thankful for every hint.
