g95 timings

I just compared the latest (Sept 29, 2005) version of g95
(Cygwin version on Windows XP) to my usual commercial compiler,
using some of my modeling code.
The ratio of execution times when last tested (May, 2005) was
about 1.8, meaning that g95 took 80% more time than the
commercial compiler. Tests on my home machine (AMD architecture)
and work machine (Intel) gave similar results.
Today's tests give ratios of 1.45 at home (AMD) and 2.75
(Intel). I am surprised at the difference between architectures,
and I am wondering if others have noted anything similar.
Both compilations used the options -c -Wall -std=f95 -O4
