This isn't exactly correct.
I think Cray and HP currently sell implementations, on limited
hardware. SGI did one on MIPS/IRIX but I don't think they made it
generally available. There are fragments of it in Open64. There is
also a GPLed source-to-source implementation, based on Open64, from
Rice University.
If you ask me, I think it would be much better for purposes of F2008
to put some effort into a better set of Fortran bindings to MPI,
What don't you like about the OpenMPI blecherous hack? It's kinda
clever...
