(snip regarding PDP-11 and VAX Fortran)
The f77 compilers were identical.
I was describing the f90 compiler for Alpha. I can't remember an f90
compiler for the VAX (it was getting rather long in the tooth by the time
that f90 came along).
While OpenVMS/VAX versions have been developed until 7.3 in May 2001,
but it does seem that DEC/Compaq/HP Fortran90 isn't supported
for VAX.
OpenVMS is supported for VAX, Alpha, and Itanium.
I believe a Fortran90 or newer compiler is available for OpenVMS/Itanium.
(Though Itanium may still be less popular than VAX.)
