That looks like a g95 bug. The code you posted is legal.
gfortran, NAG F95, and Lahey's web base checker agree with g95.
Funny. I even tested it with gfortran and Salford before posting.
Both compile it without a message. However I have now tried the
IRIX f90 and the Intel ifort compilers. Both issue messages similar
to g95...
My gfortran is rather old (4.1.0). So it seems that it, and
Salford (v4.6.0) are the buggy ones.
Wierd that I've never noticed this restriction before... Learn
something every day.
