Sara, I think you are trying to map bits in 4 dimensions.
This is better attacked as 2 or 3 dimensional slices of the 4-D solid.
If one dimension is time, it seems to me that the data will enter and
be mapped serially in time and so should be treated as a series of 3-D
maps that can be processed and accessed from auxiliary storage.
