What is this NULL thing you seem to expect?

In CVF, NULL is simply an integer variable of value zero imported from
one of the windows support modules. Used alot for c interperability.

Oh. Well, I speak Fortran - not CVF. Anyway, if that's what it is, then
the usage Bart showed makes no sense. You can't set a user-defined
derived type equal to an integer zero. Well, of course you could set up
a defined aassignment to do such a thing, but there isn't such a thing
intrinsically defined.
