Well, your mileage may vary, and I could tell you that I compile and use
for production quite a few codes with gfortran, most of them far from
being "the simplest programs": cp2k, for example, is 550kloc and quite
F95-intensive, as the number of bugs it has uncovered in different
compilers is quite large.
Ditto over here. I can run both our weather forecasting model HIRLAM (> 1E6 lines of Fortran), using GNU Fortran 4.2.0 (prerelease) since December 2005 and the new AROME/HARMONIE one (> 2E6 lines) in operational mode using GNU Fortran 4.3.0 (almost prerelease) - since half a year.
I always wonder what people actually *do* who manage to get our stuff "not working", "even on the simplest programs".
