399 - Unrecognised statement, did you forget to add /FIXED_FORMAT?
Compilation failed.
You are compiling fixed format source in which two lines extend beyond
column 72. However your file extension is not F.
/FIXED_FORMAT appears to be a Salford/Silverfrost option. IIRC this is
what you are using.
If you compile it for fixed format you have two lines which extend
beyond column 72.
If you compile it for free format you have old style comments.
So this source file is neither fixed nor free format.

I use G95 so I saved the source with an extension of .f -- and
overlooked the lines extending beyond column 72. Compiled, gnashed
teeth, lathered, rinsed, repeated until feeble brain registered "pilot
error".
I am just about ready to curse those who write in upper case or fixed
format or Fortran 77. I'm almost ready to renounce star notation as an
act of penitence. :-).

sorry, elliot, about the attribution
Strange, it works for me using f77 +E6 +E1 -K +es +U77 -g rd.f
Why on God's green earth are you using f77?

Good question, for God's green dollars, I have to modify an existing
code of more than 50000 lines on a unix system. I dont have the time
or the money allotted to convert to fortran 90.
