It is important for embedded systems designers to understand analogue
circuitry in quite some detail in order to develop the most appropriate
interface to the real world. The real world is a rough, harsh place and
knowing how to provide limiting, protection clamping, frequency and spike
filtering and matching highly reactive transmission lines is a necessary
part of getting a well behaved embedded system. The analogue topic is
probably more significant than the digital hardware aspects.

Forth with either round robin, pre-emptive scheduling (I have used both
simultaneously in a few project).

Look at the details of the cards and you find that the resources available
on each one vary quite markedly. It is nice having a choice of
architectures and I/O resources. The systems engineers selecting for the
application domains they deal in should be the only ones to make the
rationalisation choices.
