AD7709

Hi,
I have a prototype board with an AD7709 ADC.
I can talk to the ADC using the SPI interface, read and write the
registers ok. But I can get the 32 Khz crystal to ascilate at all.
Anybody with experience using the AD7709 has any sugestions?
