Newbie: Geode Audio (I2S / AC97)

Dear all,
I am hoping someone might be able to advise. (I am new to Geode)
Is it possible to use the GEODE AC97 interface to playback I2S audio ?
Hardware interface is very similar/same but AC97 muxes commands for
CODEC and PCM DAC data together. I2S is PCM DAC data only.
Does any one know if it is possible to turn off the AC97 part and have
I2S only. ( ithink you can do this on Arm PXA processors)
I have a customer that wants to connect ADC directly to GEODE AC97
interface.
