You might remember that this is an international group, with people from
all over the world. Different countries have different ways of handling
job adverts and job seekers - posting an advert in an international
forum is an absurd idea for most prospective employers or employees.

If the international job market is so "absurd" then why are you posting
in English? Welcome to the global economy.

I hadn't realized speaking English brought along with it all the other
British customs.

There has been a lot of Globalization in the past 500 years, starting
with the Spanish. The English were the most successful at it, and
that's why we're speaking English in this forum. Even the Chinese and
the Indians learn English for international communication. Think about
the implications of that.

In a lot of countries (including India and Africa) English or other
European ex colonial languages have been the main languages as the
BINDING language that more people understand. In some countries, without
the binding language people from adjacent villages would not be understood!
Let alone in quite a few areas the language is spoken and has no written
version, hence some of the strange looking names and multiple spellings
of transliterated names.
