Win95 did not require product activation. Nor did it rely on a
constant stream of updates.
Agreed re the first point. Disagreed re the second point - 'net security
is a constantly moving target [1] so at least MS are being reactive.
[1] Unless, of course, it's done right in the first place. Which is why
my servers run OpenBSD.
