You should. In my experience with CompactFlashes used with PC104 systems,
enabling the DMA mode had a tremendous impact on performances (either T/R
and CPU occupation).
Do modern flash-based IDE-compatible storage solutions offer more
features, like DMA bus mastering, multi-word DMA, Ultra DMA, higher PIO
modes and better throughput (both interface and sustained)?
Almost every CompactFlash (some are UDMA, some are multiword DMA). I don't
know if this is true also for DOMs.
