Ethernet have built-in transformers to insure galvanic isolation. You (and your costumers) do not need "special" power supplies with special plugs, that in a few years might be hard to buy. This interface can supply 5V up to 0.5A, but USB normally need a hub every 5 meters with rather expensive standard wires - TP based ethernet can normally span up to 100 meters - and you can patch it through your PDS wall plugs. Both ethernet and USB use checksums.....

If you only need to transport the measurements 1-2 meters in a protected environment, then you can use I2C or Controller Area Network (CAN):
